The Boatbuilders of Mermaid Island 2013

Directed by Imri Nasution

On Mermaid Island, Terengganu, several lives converge in this exploration of love and passion for the traditional craft of Malay boatbuilding: a translator from France, a local historian, a former client from Germany, the skillful masters who build the boats, and the potential heirs of the craft. This documentary takes us on a soulful journey through the oral history of a small community's traditions of boatbuilding.
